March-5th grade

For April 4

We will not be zooming this week but check out this interactive space to explore  Jesus’ death and Resurrection.

March 7-

This week we look at some events in Jesus’ life that happened before his arrest and death. We call these cherished stories because they tell us a lot about Jesus and how he saw his ministry on earth.

Watch the video about Jesus’ trial and Peter’s denial

Use your NRSV Student Bible and scan the headings of Mark chapters 11-16.  Write down on Infographic #10, all the events of Jesus’ last week as told in Mark chapters 11-16.

If we didn’t know these stories, what would we not understand about Jesus? (Think about the Last Supper, Jesus cleansing the temple and Jesus entering Jerusalem.)

Milestone Celebration for Faith Group (4 year old) – September 29

We invite 4 year olds and their parents to join us in the Sanctuary on September 29 at 9:45 a.m. for a Milestone Celebration that welcomes our 4 year olds into our corporate time of worship. Children and their parents will explore the sanctuary and be provided with concrete ways that help young children appreciate and participate in worship at First Presbyterian Church.

Families are invited to then worship together at the 11:00 service in the Sanctuary where each of our 4 year olds will be presented with their own hymnal – “Sing to God.”

Milestone Celebration on September 15

Sunday, September 15, during the 8:30 A.M. worship service, Pastor Stuart will present 3rd graders in the Philippians and Colossians Sunday School groups with their gift Bible. These Bibles contain many helpful tools that make the scriptures come alive, and will become your child’s “textbook” for the next three years on their Journey to Confirmation.

We need your 3rd grader in Grundy Hall at 7:50 A.M. to prepare for the worship service. Parents can head to the Sanctuary to find their seats with the rest of their family. After the Sunday School groups prepare for worship, they will move to reserved pews in the Sanctuary.

We encourage your child bring their offering to place in the offering plate while they sit with their peer group during worship.

Following worship, parents and 3rd graders are invited back to Grundy Hall for the Milestone Celebration from 9:45-10:45 A.M. We have lots of meaningful activities planned to help the children open, explore, and most of all, enjoy this tremendous gift of the Bible.

Please give thought to your favorite verse(s) of the Bible. At the celebration, parents will have a chance to “autograph” their child’s Bible next to their favorite verse. This has proved to be a very fun and meaningful introduction to God’s Word.

Retreat!

Save-the-Date!  Friday evening, September 27,  all children in 1st through 3rd grade are invited to an evening of fun, food, and fellowship here on the FPC campus from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Includes pizza dinner.

Parents:  This a perfect opportunity for your child to create new and strengthen old church friendships.  Helping our children connect together as young disciples as they journey towards Youth group will have significant benefits for your child’s faith development.

Great Resources for Summer

Here’s a few resources and book suggestions for Parents/Caregivers and for Families.

  • God Loves Me is a series of 52 Bible storybooks designed for children ages 2 to 3. Each book includes a prayer and suggestions for learning-through-play activities. The books can be ordered as a full set or individually. #babyshower #birthdaypresent #baptismgift
  • The Sticky Faith Guide for Your Family: Over 100 Practical and Tested Ideas to Build Lasting Faith is grounded in research from the Fuller Youth Institute and empowers parents to nurture family faith.  The Sticky Faith Guide for Your Family addresses one of the top current concerns about youth and the church: the reality that nearly half of all young people raised in Christian families walk away from their faith when they graduate from high school. That’s the bad news. But here’s the good news: research also shows that parents are one of the primary influences on their child’s faith.

Where two or more are gathered…

In the midst of the usual flurry of Spring activity, we had a small but mighty crew of choristers lead in worship on Sunday. They sang “My God is With Me” by Mark Patterson with the accompaniment of Ms. Rhonda, our assistant organist. On Mother’s Day, our choir children together with all the children in Sunday School will join to sing “For the Beauty of the Earth,” during 11:00 worship.

In other news, several parents and leaders as well as a couple of older choir students got together this week to hold our very own visioning meeting for what the children’s music ministry might do in the next three to five years. This generated some fun and exciting ideas and a few concrete steps for us to explore as we wrap up the 2017-18 season and plan for the next. More to come!

Finally, we’ll be celebrating with songs and spaghetti at the End-of-Year Choir Celebration this Sunday afternoon! Families RSVP here.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.” Matthew 18:20
