Nursery Care for Our Youngest (3 and younger)

At First Presbyterian Church we welcome new babies (6 weeks or older) into our Nursery throughout the year!   We have two rooms set aside for infant care, our Wee Angels and Baby Doves.   Babies who are at least 6 weeks old are welcomed and cared for by our loving Nursery Staff, while parents can enjoy worship and Sunday School classes each Sunday morning.

Our one-year old toddlers are in the Little Lambs group, two’s are in the Rainbow group, and three’s are in the Moon group. A reminder that placement is determined by age as for August 15, 2019.  And we do not age-up our children until Kick-Off 2020.   We believe it is important for children to build relationships their care providers and other children in their group.

Nursery Care is available during the 8:30 worship service in the Sanctuary, 9:45 to coincide with Sunday School (for all ages),  and both the 11:00 worship services, Sanctuary and The Table in the Gathering Place.

Visit the Children’s Welcome Desk for a warm welcome.   We use a computerized check-in system and the children are cared for in secured space; safety is a top priority.

1st – 3rd Graders – Save the Date! September 27

Save-the-Date!  Friday evening, September 27,  all children in 1st through 3rd grade are invited to an evening of fun, food, and fellowship here on the FPC campus from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Includes pizza dinner.

Parents:  This a perfect opportunity for your child to create new and strengthen old church friendships.  Helping our children connect together as young disciples as they journey towards Youth group will have significant benefits for your child’s faith development.

Milestone Celebration on September 15

Sunday, September 15, during the 8:30 A.M. worship service, Pastor Stuart will present 3rd graders in the Philippians and Colossians Sunday School groups with their gift Bible. These Bibles contain many helpful tools that make the scriptures come alive, and will become your child’s “textbook” for the next three years on their Journey to Confirmation.

We need your 3rd grader in Grundy Hall at 7:50 A.M. to prepare for the worship service. Parents can head to the Sanctuary to find their seats with the rest of their family. After the Sunday School groups prepare for worship, they will move to reserved pews in the Sanctuary.

We encourage your child bring their offering to place in the offering plate while they sit with their peer group during worship.

Following worship, parents and 3rd graders are invited back to Grundy Hall for the Milestone Celebration from 9:45-10:45 A.M. We have lots of meaningful activities planned to help the children open, explore, and most of all, enjoy this tremendous gift of the Bible.

Please give thought to your favorite verse(s) of the Bible. At the celebration, parents will have a chance to “autograph” their child’s Bible next to their favorite verse. This has proved to be a very fun and meaningful introduction to God’s Word.

Saving You a Seat

Week 1 – Saving you a seat – Crosses

Week 2 – Saving you a seat – The Light

Week 3 – Saving you a seat – Music

Week 4 – Saving you a seat – what do you see

We’re Saving you a Seat in Worship!

Dear parents of a four (turning 5) year-old,

As your child has aged out of our Sunday morning nursery, we want to help you welcome your child to our worship spaces.

Over the next eight weeks we are offering you a new tool called Saving you a Seat. Each week a new page of Saving you a seat will be posted on our website for you to print and bring to worship with you. It is a tool for your child, introducing him/her to elements of worship and our worship spaces. There will also be parent tips provided.  We hope this page will give you and your child something to talk about and be another resource for you as you welcome your child to worship with you.

First Presbyterian Church places great value on having children in worship.  The presence of children in worship is a gift to the church. We encourage you to jump into this adventure with your child and know that we are partnering with you during this new chapter in your family’s life.

Children learn best by doing. It’s always a good place to start to think how your child can participate in worship in meaningful ways.  This might include, but is not limited to, the following ideas:

  • Stand when the congregation stands;
  • Sing the repeated refrain of a song;
  • Sit quietly during the prayers;
  • Watch the musicians;
  • Put the offering in the offering plate as it is passed;
  • Follow along with the order of worship in the Children’s Worship bulletin
  • Participate in the sacrament of Communion
  • Go forward to listen to the Time for Children.

Consider where you will sit in your worship space. Where will your child be able to see what is happening? Yes, it is usually the front seats. That’s okay. Seeing what is going on helps them engage in more of the parts of worship.

It’s okay to use your “worship voice” (quiet whispering) to give cues to your child about what is coming next in worship and for them to ask questions or to express a need they have.

If you attend The Table, invite your child to shake hands with those around you as the body of Christ passes the peace.

Some tools are provided to help your child engage with their whole body during worship.

Worship bags:   are cloth bags filled with things to quietly engage children (crayons, scratch pad, and a chart of the church seasons and colors.)

The Table offers worship materials to keep little hands busy while they listen.

Children are welcome to participate in Young Children and Worship. Young Children and Worship is for children ages 4-6 (not in first grade). Children sit with parents at the beginning of worship, then may exit to join Mr. Mickey (8:30 worship hour) or Ms. Deb (11:00 worship hour.)  It is a time to learn about worship to help them transition into participation in the full hour of worship.
