Children’s Choir Celebration

Our choristers have done an amazing job this year leading worship with their voices, and we want to celebrate the joy we’ve had together! On top of that, it’s a great time to discuss plans for moving our program forward next year!

Dinner is complimentary – free of charge. RSVP needed for planning food.

Kids will rehearse briefly while parents talk with Raphael Bundage, Director of Music, and Deb O’Brien. Then all will join for our meal and brief program, including certificates and a gift.

RSVP for the Children’s Choir Celebration via Evite here!

Singing on April 29th

Singing the Introit at 8:30 Worship:  Sunday, April 29th

  • Meet at 8:00 AM in the hallway to the left of the sanctuary (the pulpit side) for robing and to practice before we sing the Introit.
  • Group Picture at 8:15 AM
  • After we sing, 4, 5, and 6 year-olds not yet in first grade can go to Young Child and Worship.
  • We have front row pews reserved for older choir children and families so we can all sit together.
  • Children will keep their robes on during the worship service. We will de-robe together after the service in the back hall way.

One More Choir Sing & Celebration to End the Season

It’s hard to believe we have just one more regular rehearsal coming up this Sunday, 4/22! Next Sunday, 4/29, the children will bless our congregation with a sung Introit during the 8:30 service.

On Sunday afternoon, 5/6, we will celebrate the end of the choir season, say goodbye for summer, and look ahead to next year. At 4 pm, Ms. Kelly and Ms. Brianna will teach a few songs of prayer and praise to send us off for summer, and then families are invited to gather with the children and our choir leaders for food and fellowship.

We still need parent volunteers to help with rehearsal on 4/22 and 5/6, and robing on 4/29. If you’re an available parent, sign up here!

Our First Sung Offering of 2018

The children’s choirs brought joy to many hearts last Sunday with an arrangement of the spiritual, “Is There Anybody Here?” With help from faithful parents putting on robes, one of our adult choir members accompanying on piano, and the lovely directorship of Ms. Brianna and Ms. Kelly, we were able to bring our first sacrifice of praise of 2018 into our congregation’s worship!

On Palm Sunday, 3/25, our choristers will serve as leaders as all the Sunday School children sing to usher in the congregation’s “Hosannas” at the 11 am service. Please join us for Sunday afternoon rehearsals before then!

New Children’s Choir Schedule, Calling Parent Volunteers!

The Children’s Choirs have our new schedule for the rest of the semester – praises be! You can find it here: Children’s Choir Schedule Spring 2018, Revised.

For our choir rehearsals to be safe and our choir directors to keep their sanity, we need at least 2 parents each week to stay and help from 4-5 pm while your children are singing and learning.

Parents, please Sign Up Here for at least one Sunday during the Spring! It’s as easy as sitting and singing with Ms. Brianna or Ms. Kelly and the kiddos, and it’s essential for our program to run.

Our next singing date is March 4th during the 8:30 service! Hope to see you there!

Children’s Choir Spring Changes

Hello everyone, our children’s choir program is undergoing some serious growth and change this semester! As the Children’s Choir Coordinator, I want to keep everyone in the loop and get feedback from all parties involved. Read on!

    – Rachel

  1. The scheduled singing for this Sunday, 2/11 has been cancelled, but we WILL have choir rehearsal in the afternoon from 4-5 pm, in preparation for our next sing on Sunday, 3/4 at the 8:30 am service.
  2. I am trying to text parents the most important/time-sensitive scheduling information. If you haven’t received a text about this Sunday and want to receive texts, contact me.
  3. We are working on a new, finalized rehearsal/performance schedule to be published soon. We’ll let you know about that here on the blog, in the Children’s Dept Friday E-newsletter, and we’ll have paper copies at rehearsal.

That’s all for now!

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!” – Psalm 95:1

Meet Rachel Bergin

The New Interim Children’s Choir Coordinator

Rachel Bergin is a long-time lover of singing, and firm believer in the power of music to boost children toward a closer walk with Jesus and a more joyful outlook on life. She is thrilled to be serving the church as Interim Children’s Choir Coordinator this Spring.

In addition to coordinating choir activities, she is finishing up her Master’s degree in Education at Peabody College of Vanderbilt and tutoring at Lipscomb Academy. She also serves as a volunteer teacher for the 6th grade Confirmation Class, and is married to our talented organist, Nick Bergin.

Please say hi as you drop off our pick up your child from choir, and if you want to see a light go on, ask her about her garden at home!

Super Special Workshop on January 21!

Children’s Choir Rehearsals begin for winter-spring 2018 on Sunday, January 21, from 4:00-5:00 pm.

The children will participate in a super special workshop led by James Wells. James is quite in demand as a Children’s choir specialist. He will introduce some selected music and introduce vocal and instructional strategies for our young singers.  He has recently conducted workshops at the Choristers Guild regional clinics in Atlanta and Dallas. In addition, he was recently the youth choir guest conductor at Montreat and Junaluska.  He currently serves as the Director of Music at Brentwood United Methodist Church.
