Hymn of the Month Club for Doxology Choristers

We are so excited to bring you our Hymn of the Month Club for this church choir year! This club will help you to develop a list of hymns that will stay with you throughout your lifetime to comfort you, bring you joy, and give you the ability to worship through song whenever you choose! What a blessing! How does the club work? For Hosanna Choir, we will simply become familiar with the hymns, listening to them and singing them several times throughout the month. Doxology choristers will have the pleasure of memorizing the first verse of each monthly hymn, and then singing it to Mrs. Brianna for credit. If you memorize 7 of the 8 hymns, you will receive a special prize at the end of the year. This is a no-pressure club and not meant to create anxiety or stress in any of our singers. They can choose to sing for Mrs. Brianna before or after rehearsal, Sunday morning, or even over the phone. It's a fun and rewarding challenge! Questions? Contact Mrs. Kelly.

It’s Time to Join the Children’s Choir!

The choirs share their songs in worship at least once per month; Fall 2018 Choir Calendar.  Additionally, they will work on songs for the Family Christmas Eve worship service.

Children spend time with all ages and  also by age-group during rehearsals.

The Hosanna Choir is for children ages 4 through younger elementary and the Doxology Choir is for older elementary. The directors are Kelly Posey and Brianna Mehler.

Why should your child join Children’s Choir?

The goal of the Children’s Choir Ministry at First Presbyterian Church is to build and nurture lifelong faith through actively praising and worshiping God with the gift of singing.

  • Children will learn another form of worshiping God. As St. Augustine once wrote, “To sing is to pray twice.”
  • Children learn various aspects of the worship service and come to have a greater understanding of what each part of the service means. They also come to understand music’s role in praising God.
  • Children participate in various devotional activities during rehearsals to strengthen their faith and foundation.
  • Children learn how to work with one another as part of a group. Choirs are the strongest when every member works together for the good of the whole.
  • Children gather a great base of musical knowledge with our wonderful directors. Children spend time not only singing, but learning the basics of music reading. They develop their singing voices and gain an appreciation for music.

It is really fun! Our directors love music and spending time with the children. They aim to make it an enjoyable experience for all and develop a lifelong desire for music and worship.

August 19 – The Journey to Confirmation Continues

The 5th grade year builds on the Old Testament foundation laid during the 4th grade year at First Presbyterian Church!   During the 5th grade year, we nudge our young people towards claiming the faith as their own.   We gently place more and more responsibility on  for reading the Bible, praying (even outloud), attending worship, and other practices that form our faith

The year will be filled with studying the New Testament in what is called a “survey” mode, or an overview of the stories, so that God’s plan and story line is emphasized more than single-story exploration.   The leaders will use an approach called “problem-based learning” to engage young minds in critical thinking, a necessary skill with Scripture as they move towards making their own profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The year will also be filled with intentional gatherings so that our young people can form new friendships and deepen old friendships in their group.   Watch for details as leaders will set up times for the 4th grade group to worship-together-as-a-class, join together for their Milestone Retreat, and much more.

August 19 – The Journey to Confirmation Begins

The 4th grade year is a big one at First Presbyterian Church!   While every step along a child’s faith journey nurtures them towards a closer, more trust-filled relationship with Christ, it is at the 4th grade year when the Journey to Confirmation is emphasized.

The year will be filled with studying the Old Testament in what is called a “survey” mode, or an overview of the stories, so that God’s plan and story line is emphasized more than single-story exploration.   The leaders will use an approach called “problem-based learning” to engage young minds in critical thinking, a necessary skill with Scripture as they move towards making their own profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Nursery Care for Our Youngest

As the families of First Presbyterian Church enjoy the fun days of summer, we know we will welcome new babies into our Nursery!   We have two rooms set aside for infant care, our Wee Angels and Baby Doves.   Babies who are at least 6 weeks old are welcomed and cared for by our loving Nursery Staff, while parents can enjoy worship and Sunday School classes throughout the summer.

Our toddlers are in the Little Lambs group, two’s are in the Sun group, and three’s are in the Moon group. A reminder that we do not age-up our youngest children until Kick-Off on August 18, 2019.

Nursery Care is available during the 8:30 worship service in the Sanctuary, 9:45 to coincide with Sunday School (for all ages),  and both the 11:00 worship services, Sanctuary and The Table in the Gathering Place.

Visit the Children’s Welcome Desk for a warm welcome.   We use a computerized check-in system and the children are cared for in secured space; safety is a top priority.
