Mary Carter, Assistant Director of Early Preschool

Mary Carter is from Decatur, Illinois, home of the “original Chicago Bears.” She graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Mary relocated from the golden fields of corn to the sandy beaches of Fort Myers, Florida, for her first years of teaching. In the summer of 2008, she relocated to Nashville to pursue her M.Ed in Applied Child Studies from Vanderbilt University. During this time, she focused on curriculum design in free-choice learning environments in settings like the Nashville Zoo and the Adventure Science Center. She was a research assistant for a  mathematical research intervention with noted educational researchers at Vanderbilt and enjoyed working for Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth focusing on gifted elementary students.

Mary was a part of the faculty at Oak Hill School for seven years, and she now enjoys working with many of the same families as the Assistant Director of our Early Preschool.  She loves seeing the visible growth made in the early years of learning. Mary lives in East Nashville with her husband, Brian; son, Miles; daughter, Sadie; and their Westie dog, Winston.
