Deb O’Brien, Director of Children's Ministry

Deb was born and raised in Rochester, New York. After marrying her husband, Mike, and having two children, Bridget and Kevin, the family relocated to Lookout Mountain in Golden, Colorado, and after five years there, Mike's job transfer brought the family to Brentwood, Tennessee, in 1993 where they joined East Brentwood Presbyterian Church. Deb joined the staff at First Presbyterian Church in 2003 serving as the Director of Children's Education.

Deb was employed by Eastman Kodak Company as an Information Systems Specialist, specializing in departmental computing and office automation. She received significant corporate training, continuing education and on-the-job training during the 13 years she worked for Kodak.

Deb has served as a children's Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, Christian Education and Service & Outreach Committee Chairperson, is an ordained Elder in the PC(USA), has served on Session, served as the Director of Christian Education, is a Certified Associate Christian Educator in the PC(USA) and is a trained clean water educator for Living Waters of the World.

Deb is passionate about guiding children towards a deep and trust-filled relationship with God through Jesus Christ our Lord, Savior and Friend. She is a strong advocate for things that help children grow strong and confident in the Lord, healthy in their relationships with others, thankful and caring for everything God has provided, generous with themselves and their possessions, flourishing in their personhood and lives and joy-filled in spite of circumstances.

Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" is a daily reminder for Deb that what we see is not what we get, that God's Kingdom is the reality in spite of the evil and suffering that surrounds us and reminds her of the hope that fuels her passion, combined with "the should-a, would-a, could-a was beaten by the did" from Shel Silverstein, which reminds Deb that God's grace is greater than regrets and second-guessing that suck energy, focus and the ability to move forward.
