Confirmation Journey includes Covenant of Service

Early in the Sunday School year, our fourth, fifth and sixth graders are asked to consider how they will serve our church and community as part of their covenant of service during their confirmation journey. They may serve in a variety of ways and often find a unique serving opportunity based on their interests.

One way these pre-teens can serve is as a Junior VIP helper in Young Children and Worship or a Junior VIP Nursery helper. They can also serve as a Baptism Buddy, reading the scripture or prayer during a child’s baptism. Another way of serving is to pray for the leaders of our church; the deacons, elders and pastors. What a powerful image it is that our young members are praying for the leaders of our faith community.

These fourth, fifth and sixth graders are learning the meaning of service through stewardship in unique and meaningful ways.

Heard from one junior helper:

“I have always really loved working with young children, and it is something I look forward to when I am at church.  I have been taught from a young age to serve others, and this is a great way to do it.   There are many older church members that have impacted my life, and I would love to have the same affect on the nursery aged children.”
