Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee opened its doors in 1978 with commitment from several community leaders. The purpose of the organization was to provide a central distribution center for companies, groups and individuals who wished to help provide food for hungry people in Middle Tennessee. Second Harvest’s mission is to feed hungry people and work to solve hunger issues in our community. FPC families work supports the BackPack program which provides nutritious and easy-to-prepare food for school children to take home on weekends and school vacations.

At the 8:30 worship service, third graders will receive a Bible as a gift from their faith community. They receive the NRSV Student Bible which can be their Bible text through Confirmation.

Following worship, parents and third graders will gather with the Colossians Leadership team for the Exploring God’s Word Milestone in Grundy Hall (9:45-10:45 a.m.) This will be a time to celebrate this important step in each child’s faith journey and a time to learn about the study helps in the Bible.

Kick-Off for Children’s Sunday School Groups is August 20

Welcome!   We hope the summer offered lots of opportunity to relax, travel, and renew.  We’re ready to begin our communities of belonging with our children each Sunday morning.  Groups age 3 through 6th grade study the Bible together and grow as disciples as they pray, serve, play, and care for each other.   Babies and toddlers have a fun time in our loving Nursery playing and hearing a Bible story, too.

The Sunday School hour for children is 9:45-10:45 A.M.   Families will receive an e-mail with their child’s group and room assignment prior to August 20.   We ask that parents escort their children to their group on this Kick-Off day and offer a hello/thanks to the great group of leaders who will be journeying with your child for the next 10 months.

Starting at 10:00 A.M. we are hosting a breakfast for parents in Courtenay Hall.   You’ll have time to visit with friends, make new friends, and enjoy Kim’s great cooking.

Relationships matter!

Faith is caught more than it is taught.

Relationships matter- Third graders meet our pastors

Several years ago, veteran Sunday School leader Burton Dietz asked if it could be arranged for the third graders to meet the pastors during Sunday School. His hope was that meeting the pastors in an informal way would help the children connect with them as trusted adults with whom they could approach with questions and wonderings. Our pastors responded with generosity of time and eagerness to meet our third graders. These meetings have grown into an annual event.

This year the pastors shared their favorite Bible verse and talked about their own walk with God. The third graders asked interesting questions that led to some great conversations.

Thanks to our pastors for reaching out to our third graders to connect with them and build relationships that matter. And many thanks to our Philippians and Colossians Sunday School leaders for helping these relationships grow.

August 14, 2016 will be a special Sunday School event for all ages

We will explore the many ways God is with us and blesses us. Our time together will include story, music, and activities for the whole family.
