Thistle Farms Service Project – Items Needed by 10/29

The fourth grade is partnering with Thistle Farms for our service project this year.  We showed the children a video about this organization a few weeks ago so they should be familiar with Thistle Farms.

Please visit this Thistle Farms Sign Up Genius and pick and item or two that your child can bring to support the women of Thistle Farms.  Please bring all items to Sunday School no later than 10/29.

Grades 4-6 will meet in Grundy Hall.

Kick-Off for Children’s Sunday School Groups is August 20

Welcome!   We hope the summer offered lots of opportunity to relax, travel, and renew.  We’re ready to begin our communities of belonging with our children each Sunday morning.  Groups age 3 through 6th grade study the Bible together and grow as disciples as they pray, serve, play, and care for each other.   Babies and toddlers have a fun time in our loving Nursery playing and hearing a Bible story, too.

The Sunday School hour for children is 9:45-10:45 A.M.   Families will receive an e-mail with their child’s group and room assignment prior to August 20.   We ask that parents escort their children to their group on this Kick-Off day and offer a hello/thanks to the great group of leaders who will be journeying with your child for the next 10 months.

Starting at 10:00 A.M. we are hosting a breakfast for parents in Courtenay Hall.   You’ll have time to visit with friends, make new friends, and enjoy Kim’s great cooking.

Relationships matter!

Faith is caught more than it is taught.

Covenant of Service Opportunities

During our Sunday morning group time, your tween has been exploring their own God-given spiritual gifts, and they’re discovering ways to use those gifts to serve in God’s kingdom. See below for more information about opportunities to use their gifts here within our church!

  1. YC&W Helper

Young Children & Worship (YC&W) is a ministry that helps 4, 5 and 6 year olds smoothly transition from the nursery to worship in the Sanctuary during the 8:30 and 11:00 services. Tweens are invited to help assist the leaders as needed. Click to sign up as YC&W Helper.

  1. Junior Nursery Helper

As a Junior Nursery Helper, your tween will get to love on the littlest in our midst by reading them a story during either the 8:30 or 11:00 service.  Click to sign up as a Junior Nursery Helper.

  1. Serving Together

Each grade level (1st – 6th) has been assigned a ministry partnership through their Sunday school group, but families and tweens are welcome to donate to or volunteer with any agency.  There are no Serving Together events on the calendar this spring, however, 4th-6th graders have an opportunity to work with several agencies through Mission Camp this summer. Click here for more information about Mission Camp.

  1. Baptism Buddy

Baptism Buddies stand alongside a family and pray for their baby (or child) as they are baptized during the worship service.  We have provided your tween’s name to Susan Kirby, who will contact you as opportunities arise.  If you have questions or would like to contact Susan, you may do so at skirby@fpcnashville.org or 615-298-9540.

  1. Doxology Choir

The Doxology Choir sings during several worship services during the year.  Practices are held on Sunday afternoons and select Wednesday evenings at the church, and are part of an integrated program of music and spiritual formation.  If your tween is interested, you can sign up online or contact Jerry Monds with any questions (jmonds@fpcnashville.org).

  1. Pray for Leadership

Prayer is a wonderful gift and powerful tool.  Tweens interested in praying for our Church leadership will receive a pictorial directory of the Elders and Deacons.

  1. Contribute to the Offering

If your tween has indicated to their Sunday school teachers (or if they indicate this in the future) that they would like to contribute to the church offering regularly, we will happily provide them with a set of offering envelopes.  If you need additional envelopes, they are available at the Children’s Hospitality Desk.

Milestone Retreat builds community and strengthens faith.

Our fourth graders met on Feb. 4 for a morning retreat to celebrate their connectedness and explore ways they are connected to this community of faith. They looked at milestones they have completed on their faith journey and remembered/looked forward to their baptism using water as a sensory cue. They chose a scripture that they want to learn by heart and they created a gift for children at Preston Taylor Ministries. The day ended with lunch fellowship and a blessing around the circle!

4th Grade Sunday School Temple Visit

We are thrilled to be invited to share time, worship and fellowship with The Temple: Friday, October 28th: Blue Jean Shabbat. This is a service of casual dress and contemporary music. This will be a great opportunity for the kids to experience Jewish worship together within our community while we have been diving into the Old Testament in class. We want this to be a family time so plan to come and join. Their is a potluck and fellowship time following that we are hoping to have our group attend. To have an idea of how many are coming….we really need everyone to mark their plans on this invite. Hoping to see many of you there!

Ways your Tween can make a meaningful contribution within our church
