Doxology choristers (2nd grade and older) will join for a fun Retreat on November 2 from 5:00-7:30 PM on the FPC Campus. Dinner is included.

All God’s Children Sing

On Sunday, October 28th, Sunday School children will participate in worship, singing the Introit together. The Psalmist said, “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.”  That’s what All God’s Children Sing is about; all children making a joyful sound to praise and worship God.

Use this link to practice the song at home

Lyrics:

Verse 1:  Come into God’s presence singing “Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.”

Verse 2: Come into God’s presence signing “Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord.”

Logistics:

  • Sunday School leaders will walk children (groups Faith to 6th grade) directly to the Sanctuary at 10:45 (the end of  Sunday School).
  • After the children sing, they will join their parents in the pews for worship.
  • Front rows will be reserved for families with children in the Moon, Faith, Love and Grace groups so children can find parents easily.
  • Families with children in the Moon group (our 3’s); you received an e-mail with instructions.  If you would like your young one to sing, please pick them up from class and walk them to the Sanctuary.  You are welcome to remain on or near the risers if needed.

If it is not possible for your child to participate, please meet her/him in the Sanctuary before the 11:00 service begins and let their Sunday School leader know prior to leaving.  Thank you.

It will be a joyful day of praising God.

Entering the Children’s Secure Space

Arriving in the building for the 8:30 start to the morning:  for those families who will be checking in a child 3 and younger

You will be met outside the secured space by Leanne or Val.  They will assist you in checking in all your children for the morning.  You can check-in older children who will attend Young Children & Worship or Sunday School at this point, too.  You will receive a name tag to place on your Nursery-aged child, a bag tag, and a pick-up receipt (very important).  You can then enter the space and drop your young child into Nursery Care.

When you return to retrieve your child (either after 8:30 worship or after Sunday School), you will need to show the pick-up receipt in order to enter the secured space.   You will turn the receipt in at your child’s room.   While our loving nursery staff works hard to know every child, this receipt ensures that if we have substitutes, we will be reuniting children to the correct adult.

Arriving in the building for the 9:45 start of Sunday School:

You will be able to check-in  your family outside the secured space.   Young children will receive their name tags, etc.   At 9:40, the doors to the secured space will open and you can escort your child to the proper room.   This provides ample time for families who were present for the 8:30 service to retrieve their child and exit the space.   Again you will have the opportunity to check-in for the remainder of the morning, i.e., Sunday School and 11:00 worship.

Arriving in the building for the 11:00 start to the morning:  for those families who will be checking in a child 3 and younger

You will be able to check-in your family outside the secured space.   Young children will receive their name tags, etc.   At 10:50, the doors to the secured space will open and you can escort your child to the proper room.   This provides ample time for families who were present for the earlier programs to retrieve their child and exit the space.   You can check-in older children who will attend Young Children & Worship at this point, too.  You will receive a name tag to place on your Nursery-aged child, a bag tag, and a pick-up receipt (very important).  You can then enter the space and drop your young child into Nursery Care.

When you return to retrieve your child (after 11:00 worship), you will need to show the pick-up receipt in order to enter the secured space.   You will turn the receipt in at your child’s room.   While our loving nursery staff works hard to know every child, this receipt ensures that if we have substitutes, we will be reuniting children to the correct adult.

Hygiene Kits Collection

You are invited to bring items to help us create hygiene kits for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.  The collection will run through Sunday, October 14 when children will be assembling these items into gallon-size Ziploc bags during our Day of Service in Sunday School.

These kits offer a way to reach disaster survivors and those in need with the hope of Christ. As parents help children process images of devastation from natural disasters, purchasing and offering these gifts can be a tangible way for children to put their faith and empathy into action.

You may bring any quantity of any of these items  and drop them off in our white bin by the church’s covered drop-off entrance.

hand towels (approximately 16” x 28”, no finger tip or bath towels)
washclothes
wide-tooth combs (not regular combs)
nail clippers
bars of soap (unscented, bath size in wrapper)
toothbrushes (individually packaged)

ONLY the items listed above will be accepted by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Please do not donate toothpaste for the Hygiene Kits. Toothpaste which has an extended expiration date will be added to international Hygiene Kit shipments just prior to shipment.

Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead

We had a lovely time at our end-of-year celebration last Sunday with our choir families. Ms. Kim provided a tasty spaghetti supper, we learned a new meal blessing sung to the tune of “Jesus Loves Me,” and the children each received a coloring book of Psalms to help them reflect on the sung prayers we are given in the Bible. Thank you especially to parents who came and brought their ideas to our Q&A session!

The directors of our Music and Children’s Ministries are meeting regularly this month with children’s choir staff to plan possibilities for the Fall 2018 Children’s Choir program. There are exciting developments in the works!

We hope you will take some time this summer to sing to God with your families, in worship, and even just in your alone time!

Blessings,

– Rachel, Brianna, and Kelly

All God’s Children Sing – Mother’s Day, May 13th

Where two or more are gathered…

In the midst of the usual flurry of Spring activity, we had a small but mighty crew of choristers lead in worship on Sunday. They sang “My God is With Me” by Mark Patterson with the accompaniment of Ms. Rhonda, our assistant organist. On Mother’s Day, our choir children together with all the children in Sunday School will join to sing “For the Beauty of the Earth,” during 11:00 worship.

In other news, several parents and leaders as well as a couple of older choir students got together this week to hold our very own visioning meeting for what the children’s music ministry might do in the next three to five years. This generated some fun and exciting ideas and a few concrete steps for us to explore as we wrap up the 2017-18 season and plan for the next. More to come!

Finally, we’ll be celebrating with songs and spaghetti at the End-of-Year Choir Celebration this Sunday afternoon! Families RSVP here.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.” Matthew 18:20

Confirmation Orientation Meeting for 5th graders and their parents

May 13 at 9:45-10:45 in Grundy Hall

Parents will join with their current 5th grader to meet and talk with Garry Latimer, who will be the Team Leader for the Confirmation class next year, and Deb O’Brien, Director of Ministry with Children and their families.

Information shared at  the meeting will include:

  • Vision and values for the coming year
  • Key dates
  • Introduction of the leadership team
  • Some get acquainted activities
  • a chance to ask questions

Please bring $30 to cover the participation fee that covers events/food for the fellowship events that are an integral part of the year.

Confirmation is the culmination of all the nurture and faith formation that has taken place since your child was born. It is the time when children have reached an age where they can profess their faith in Jesus Christ as their own-apart from their parent’s and take on the privileges  and responsibilities of full church membership here at First Presbyterian Church.

Questions, please contact Deb O’Brien at dobrien@fpcnashville.org or 615-298-9582
